Disney Dreamlight Valley is a game packed full of content. You can spend time farming for ingredients for cooking recipes, or hunting for crafting materials in order to make furniture and decorate the Valley.
Alongside its life-sim aspects, the game is loaded with quests. Some are story ones dealing with an event called The Forgetting, the main source of conflict in the game, and over 50 different side quests from all the Disney characters that inhabit the Valley. Between A Skull Rock And A Hard Place was released in Patch 1.5 as part of a large story update.
How To Begin Between A Skull Rock And A Hard Place
You can start this quest after you complete the previous one, The Dark Castle. The first thing you'll want to do is collect the Orb of Unity from within the Dark Castle.
With that quest finished, you can now return to the Dark Castle whenever you wish by going into the purple portal in the Plaza. You may have noticed the Orb sitting in an unreachable spot last time you were in the Dark Castle, but now you can teleport to it easily with the glowing square next to the first door.
How To Activate The Puzzle
After obtaining it, you'll need to place it into the Pillar of Unity, which is located in Dazzling Beach, on the small island near Skull Rock. After you do this and cleanse the pillar, the quest begins, and you'll see a set of seven glowing symbols appear around the Pillar.
This is the start of a puzzle you'll need to figure out. If you look closely at the symbols, you may find them familiar. Each symbol matches one of the previous Orbs you've placed in the other Pillars located around the Valley, and in order to solve the puzzle, you'll need to move the Pillars into the correct spots.
If you haven't moved them before, it's possible to do so by going into the Furniture menu after they've been cleansed, and they can freely be moved around into different spots as part of a new decoration. For this quest, however, you'll need them around the Orb of Unity.
How To Solve The Puzzle
Starting at the front side of the Pillar of Unity, facing away from Dazzling Beach, you'll need to first place the Pillar of Love on the lower left symbol directly in front of it. Next to it on the lower right goes the Pillar of Remembrance. In the middle right next to Remembrance, place the Pillar of Nurturing.
You may need to shift decor items around slightly to accommodate the pillars, but the majority of each pillar's center section does need to touch the symbol. In the upper right corner, place the Pillar of Trust. In the upper middle, place the Pillar of Friendship, and in the upper left, put the Pillar of Power. Finally, place the Pillar of Courage in the middle left spot, completing the circle.
How To Complete The Quest
As soon as they're in the correct spots, and you exit the Furniture menu, you'll see a short cutscene where Skull Rock begins to shake and smoke rolls out of its mouth. Once you finish the cutscene, you'll need to find Merlin wherever he is on the map and talk to him. You'll explain the sudden event to Merlin, and he'll tell you that he needs time to research what happened. This marks the end of the quest, and the storyline for now.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is still being worked on and new content is generally added every one to three months, based on the dates of past updates, so it's likely you'll see the next story update arrive in a few months, alongside new characters.
