With multiplayer mode in Stardew Valley, you can now experience the world with up to three other friends. Extra friends will have cabins located on your farm, and will be able to help you with pretty much every task, from combat to taking care of your crops.

In addition to having a partner in farming, you will also have the option to marry another player. Marrying a real player works a bit differently than it does in single-player mode, so we are going to cover everything you need to know.

Updated August 1, 2023 by Jacqueline Zalace: We've added a bit more information on marrying other players in Stardew Valley. Additionally, you can now learn how to file for a divorce.

Benefits Of Marrying Another Player

Interestingly, there are nearly no benefits of marrying another player. You will not have any unique cutscenes or cute additions to your house. You will still have children, but this isn't a beneficial addition to the game, as children don't provide much value.

If you are looking to experience all possible content in Stardew Valley, we suggest marrying an NPC. Each marriage candidate brings a fun personality to the farm, as well as unique areas and gifts. Additionally, you will be able to view their 14-heart cutscenes.

What Do You Need To Do To Marry Another Player?

You may have noticed that when you play in multiplayer mode, you will not have a friendship meter next to other players. Above, you can see two additional players in multiplayer mode, without a row of hearts. This means that you can marry another player anytime you want.

However, to marry another player, you need to give them a Wedding Ring - not a Bouquet. This is a craftable item that only appears in multiplayer mode; you won't be able to find it if you are playing solo.

How To Craft A Wedding Ring

Rather than giving your future spouse a Mermaid Pendant, you will give them a Wedding Ring. This is a crafted item, and the recipe can only be purchased from the Traveling Cart.

The Traveling Cart is a wagon pulled by a pig that will be directly above the pond in Cindersap Forest every Friday and Saturday. From 6 am to 8 pm on these days, you will have the opportunity to buy the Wedding Ring recipe for 500g.

The Merchant will immediately begin selling this recipe and will carry it every day that she appears, so you do not have to wait for it to become unlocked.

To craft the Wedding Ring, you will need five Iridium bars and one Prismatic Shard.

Iridium

Stardew Valley Iridium Ore

Iridium is a type of ore that can be found while exploring the Mines and Skull Cavern. The ore is usually found within Iridium nodes, but you can also obtain it from geodes and monster drops.

We recommend heading to Skull Cavern in the Desert. Here, you can collect geodes, slay monsters, and potentially find Iridium nodes. Additionally, if you have the Statue of Perfection, this will produce a few Iridium ore every day.

Once you have five Iridium ore, you can smelt them along with one piece of coal. In total, you will need 25 Iridium ore and five coal to make these Iridium bars.

Prismatic Shard

Prismatic Shards are rare minerals with a rainbow appearance. This item can be found within Omni Geodes, as well as drop from monsters within Skull Cavern. If you happen to have a fish pond with ten Rainbow Trout, you may also receive a Prismatic Shard here.

Thankfully, Iridium nodes have a slight chance to drop a Prismatic Shard, which means you can potentially obtain both materials needed for the Wedding Ring at the same time.

Presenting The Wedding Ring

Once you have a Wedding Ring, give it to another player! With the ring selected in your inventory, simply approach your future partner and interact with them.

From here, they will have the option to accept or refuse. If accepted, you will have a wedding ceremony three days after the proposal. If they refuse, the marriage will not happen, but you can ask again whenever you want.

Marriage Gifts In Multiplayer Mode

When marrying other NPCs, they will give you a Stardrop as a marriage gift. When marrying another player, you will still get this Stardrop.

The morning after you wake up after the wedding, you will receive a purple gift box; this will contain the Stardrop. There will be a box for both you and your partner, which means that in total, you and your spouse will get two Stardrops.

Unlike the NPC spouses, you don't need to keep giving your partner gifts - just be sure that they don't stop playing with you!

Having Children In Multiplayer Mode

If you have married another player, you are still able to have children. Similar to having children with the NPCs of Stardew Valley, one player will have a dialogue box pop up at night, asking if they want children.

This option will only pop up if both players are sleeping in the same bed. If either player accepts having children, they will appear in the house where both of you are sleeping.

Other than that, children work exactly the same. For more information on having children, check out this guide.

Divorcing Your Spouse

If married life isn't what you expected, you can get divorced. The process is the same regardless if you marry another player or an NPC.

To divorce, head to Mayor Lewis' house and head to the books found on the left side of the room. One of these books will let you file for divorce after paying a fee.

If you change your mind, you have until the end of the day to cancel the divorce.

When you divorce an NPC, they will be a bit angry towards you, and your interactions will change. Since other players don't have relationship bars, this will not happen when you divorce.
