Detective Pikachu is finally getting a new game on October 6, though Nintendo hasn't confirmed who is voicing the electric fuzzball. Some speculate that it's Lego Batman and Bojack Horseman actor Will Arnett, but it's more likely that it's Kaji Tang, who also retweeted the announcement.

The aptly titled Detective Pikachu Returns brings us back to the world of a talkative Pokemon solving mysteries for the first time in half a decade, with Tim Goodman also here to lend a hand.

The trailer doesn't give too much away, but we do get to see a few new Pokemon from Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet hanging around the city. There's also the announcement of a "Pokemon Friendship Week", seemingly from a mayor or governmental figure, while Pikachu and Goodman (not to be confused with a certain lawyer) sit on the bench in the back. Goodman can be seen with his "iconic red hoodie", as Pikachu says.

The trailer doesn't give away what the mystery we're solving, but given that it launches on October 6--which is less than four months away--there's not much of a wait before we find out for ourselves. What we can say right now is that this is a sequel to the 2019 3DS adventure that was announced four years ago, so if you want to catch up on the story, you might want to give that a try. Just keep in mind that the 3DS store closed down.

It's not the only new Nintendo game coming in October that was announced at the Direct. We also found out that there's a Mario RPG remake and a brand-new 2D Mario game called Super Mario Bros. Wonder, ditching the 'NEW' branding and aesthetic for a revamped but classic-inspired look. There's even an elephant Mario which has already resulted in a flood of fanart, not all of it PG-13. Be careful what you search out there, eh?

Other than elephant Mario, the trailer revealed that Daisy will be playable for the first time in the mainline series, and that we can expect to ride on Yoshi's back again. There's also a new flower power-up that distorts reality and causes pipes to wiggle like worms, as well as an ability that lets us turn into a giant rolling spiky ball. If that isn't enough, you can somehow charge to the finishing flag with a stampede of bulls to crush it as you pass. All of which sounds completely hectic but in keeping with Mario's eccentric abilities. Now we just need to see elephant variants of all the other characters.
